Cypress River & Castle Farm

Cypress River Inn & Spa has long been a beloved gem in Snow Hill, MD. Originally the 1860 home of George Washington Purnell, this Gothic Revival treasure remains one of Maryland’s most elaborate architectural landmarks and is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its story began in 1853, when the Purnell family purchased the lot from Samuel Johnson, a prominent landowner whose legacy still lives on. In fact, his family’s land later became Castle Farm—an elegant equine wedding venue and our sister property. Today, Johnson’s direct descendant carries that legacy forward as co-owner of both properties, uniting a rich past with gracious hospitality.
