A Rich and Storied History

Experience a Thoughtfully Renovated Victorian Landmark in Snow Hill

The story of Cypress River Inn began long before its opening in 2026. At the heart of the property stands the historic George Washington Purnell House, built in 1853 on land once owned by Samuel Johnson, a prominent Snow Hill landowner whose family played an important role in the region’s early history. The property’s roots trace back to one of the original colonial land grants issued in the seventeenth century, decades before Snow Hill was officially incorporated.

Today, the inn’s ownership reflects a remarkable full-circle moment. Co-owner Catherine Casto is a direct descendant of the Johnson family, reconnecting the property to its historic lineage more than 170 years later. Together with her husband, Darren, and longtime friends Jeffrey and Tammie Faille, the team has lovingly restored the former River House Inn while preserving the character and architectural beauty.

Meet the Cypress River Team

Cypress River Inn & Spa is owned and operated by Catherine and Darren Casto, together with Jeffrey and Tammie Faille. The owners share a deep commitment to preserving the history and character of Snow Hill while creating exceptional guest experiences rooted in Eastern Shore hospitality.

Catherine is a physician and entrepreneur who also co-owns Castle Farm, the inn’s sister property located just outside Snow Hill. Darren is a master craftsman whose attention to detail played a significant role in the property’s restoration.

Jeffrey and Tammie Faille bring decades of hospitality and culinary expertise to the inn. Their passion for food, service, and community helps shape the welcoming atmosphere guests experience throughout the property and at Château Le Mère, the inn’s French-inspired restaurant. Jeffrey Faille is a French-trained executive chef and his passion is farm-to-table cuisine.

Together, the owners have created a destination that celebrates history, craftsmanship, fine dining, and the unique spirit of Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
